Sharing is Caring!

I am all about setting goals for the new year but for the last two years I have been big on picking a word each year to focus on and to challenge myself to stay connected to what’s important to me. Here I will share with you my process of reflecting over my past year, thinking ahead in the new year, discovering my new word and how I will apply it to my everyday life throughout the year.

Past Year Reflection

My word in 2020 was “Intentional”, which I wanted to be more intentional in everything I did. Intentional with my words, my time with God, with being present, with who I spent my time with, my job, my personal life, relationships, and my free time. And I am happy to confidently report that I grew in all these areas in 2020. Yes 2020 was the year of COVID-19 but I didn’t allow that to distraction me or disrupt my growth. The word intentional helped me overcome a lot of fears that were weighing me down. It gave me the focus and direction I needed which led me to exactly where I needed to be now.

As I reflect on my year in 2020 I have:

Strengthened my relationship with God by seeking Him and by deepening my understanding of His Word.

Realized I needed more healing. Started my journey to healing from past toxic relationships.

Learned that taking care of my energy and peace was vital and made it a priority. I didn’t allow others or situations to steal my joy. This year was all about self-care and self-love.

Overcame fears by taking a big leap to new projects and launching my own brand and website.

Year Ahead

Now focusing on the year ahead, I want my word to relate to the things coming ahead. I want my word to help develop a better version of me and challenge me.

In 2021 I would like:

→ To be challenged with bigger and better opportunities.

→ Looking forward to continuing my spiritual journey and growing more in God’s Word.

→ Continue focusing on building my brand/online business.

→  To create more healthy relationships and focus on taking my personal growth to another level.

My Word

I asked God to help reveal and help me discover my word of the year. A word that I can focus on that will challenge me to a bigger goal, to help me be a better me. I took a day or so to write down a few words that resonated to me, studied those words, and looked over my goals I would like to focus on in the year ahead. The word that kept speaking to me and pressing on my heart was the word “Increase”.

So for 2021 my word is INCREASE

Applying My Word

Now that my word is chosen, I find ways to apply my word to all areas in my life. I find scriptures to give God’s perspective to it. Then I make a plan to review my progress each month to see if I need to make any adjustments to my goals. Here is how I breakdown for deeper insight of my word and how I apply my word in my life.

Define/Synonym

I look up the meaning of the word and a few synonyms for greater insight and write it down.

Increase: (to become greater) grow, enlarge, expand.

Areas to Apply My Word

There is always room for INCREASE:

Increase with my mindset

Increase in my faith

Increase in my relationships

Increase in my worth

Increase in my finances

Increase in my journey with God

Increase in my business

Increase self-love/self-care

Increase in my peace

Increase in my joy

Increase in meaning in my life

Increase in every area.

Scriptures

Found scriptures that give God’s perspective.

♥ Psalm 115:14-15 ~ May the Lord give you increase, both you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

♥ Job 8:7 ~ And though you started with little, you will end with much.

♥ Matthew 6:33 ~ Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all things will be given to you.

Throughout the year I will continue to find scriptures that apply to my word and read devotionals and books that discuss my word deeper.

Make A Plan

My plan to be sure I stay on track and allow my word to manifest throughout the year, I will review my progress on a monthly basis. Checking to see if I need to make any adjustments to my goals and continue to ask God to reveal my word in my everyday life.

A few additional steps I will take to help me apply my word, I will keep a small journal to document how God uses my word throughout my life in 2021.
